Station Configuration

Fill-In Digi

Configuration guidance for a lower-power, local-coverage fill-in digipeater.

Fill-in digipeaters provide local, first-hop-only coverage in areas that can't reliably reach a mountaintop WIDEn-N digipeater — valleys, urban areas, and other RF-shadowed spots.

See WIDEn-N Digipeater for the wide-area digipeater configuration this complements.

Suggested Parameters

Suggested parameters for a fill-in digipeater
Parameter Value Notes
UNPROTO WIDE1-1 Fill-in digipeaters typically only respond to the first hop, unlike mountaintop WIDEn-N digis.
Typical placement In-valley / low elevation Complements WIDEn-N coverage by filling gaps for low-power mobiles and portables.

Notes

  • A home station left on with WIDE1-1,WIDEn-N path handling effectively acts as a fill-in digi — a dedicated fill-in setup just formalizes and optimizes that role.
  • Fill-in digis are especially valuable in valleys and urban canyons where mountaintop digipeaters can't be heard directly.
